About This Place

Spike’s Cake Shop in Pomona, CA, is a vibrant bakery and Mexican eatery that masterfully blends traditional flavors with a welcoming community spot atmosphere. Located conveniently at 660 Fairplex Dr, this beloved local gem is much more than its name suggests. While Spike’s Cake Shop is famed for its exquisite cakes, it shines brightest with its authentic tamales, pan dulce, and a cornucopia of Mexican specialties that keep customers coming back for more.

Step inside, and you’ll be embraced by the enticing aromas of freshly baked conchas, vanilla bread, and moist, vibrant masa tamales that are as rich in flavor as they are steeped in tradition. Spike’s offers a menu that reads like a celebration of Mexican culinary heritage: from the spicy, succulent quesadillas—like Quesadillas al Pastor and Birria—to hearty sopes topped with savory meats, and comforting caldos such as Menudo and Pozole. The bakery case showcases colorful Rainbow Cakes and delicate Pasteles Individuales alongside classic conchas amarillas and white conchas, each bite bursting with fresh, decadent sweetness.

One cannot speak of Spike’s without highlighting their legendary tamales. Juicy and perfectly moist, these tamales come in various fillings, including pork, beef, and cheese, often accompanied by traditional sides like sour cream and beans. According to enthusiastic customers like Lizbeth Carranza, these tamales pack just the right punch of spice and flavor that perfectly balance savory and hearty, making every visit a memorable experience.

Beyond the food, Spike’s is cherished for its warm, friendly service. Teresa L. praises the helpful staff and offers a valuable tip—calling ahead to avoid the sometimes long lines. Yvette M. Lama points out the immense popularity of the tamales, noting that despite occasional sell-outs during rush times, the staff keeps customers informed with respectful communication. This thoughtful customer care only adds to the bakery’s charm.

For those who appreciate both sweet and savory indulgences, Spike’s Cake Shop delivers with enticing offerings such as the refreshing Torta de Carne Asada paired with fresh carrot and orange juice, or the savory Ham Egg Torta that perfectly complements their collection of fresh breads. The experience is one where authentic Mexican tastes meet genuine hospitality, with every bite telling a story of culinary passion and local tradition.

I don't know why people have complaints about Spike's. I've never had a problem ordering from here. I love the bean and cheese burritos. My favorite pan is the carrot cake. It's so good! The staff are always nice and helpful. If you don't want to wait in line, I suggest CALLING IN YOUR ORDER!

Don't let the name of the shop fool you. If you love tamales, this is the place to go!! Yes, they sell cakes, pan dulce, etc. but people will stand in line for a long time just to get the tamales. They often run out of choices (beef, pork, cheese) of tamales during peak times, but staff will let you know about what time more will be available. ***Words of Caution--The area isn't the safest, so please be well aware of your surroundings and go with others (not children) in/out of the shop.

All their tamales have great flavor and a very moist masa. They can be more on the spicier (hot) side but pairing them with sour cream and beans make it just perfect! Their pan dulce is also the best. Everything is delicious in this bakery. My family and all coworkers in OC agree that they are the best.

The Mexican bread (Pan dulce) here is by far the best bread in the area. Delicious and freshly made daily. Been here twice already and the quality is just so good!! Haven't tried the cakes yet but will update once I do.

I had an amazing carne asada wrap here, easily the finest I have ever tried. I am already excited to return and explore more of their menu. This spot has quickly turned into my favorite place for Mexican dishes. The flavors, the care in each item, and the warm service made the entire visit outstanding.

Bread is really good, also the foods sold you could notice that the use of premium ingredients for the bread. The chocolate mouse is really good, it is not extremely sweet, best chocolate mouse around, in my opinion!

Best mexican sweet bread you're going to get! Hands down! The Conchas are the best, they stay soft for a few days! Not like the conchas from superior or el super! Oh and the enpanadas! Delightful!

This is the best pan dulce place to go to! I live far from it but whenever I am in the area, I make sure to stop by. Their conchas and other sweet bread always taste so fresh and delicious. They also sell cakes and food but I haven't tried them
